Magic Adventure in the Great Wall

ne night, Albert was reading a book. He was soon very tired and fell asleep at his desk. When he woke
up, he looked around. It was not his room! There were decorations everywhere made of gold. There
was a gigantic painting on the wall of a man and a boy wearing yellow clothes with many dragons
embroidered. “How strange!” Albert thought out loud. He turned around. The little boy in the painting
was standing in front of him!
Who are you? Why are you in my palace?” asked the little boy.
O
I amAlbert. Who are you?”
I am Chang-Fei. My father is King-Guanyu.” Albert was anxious to explore the palace.
I will introduce you to my father. You must be quiet because he is having a serious meeting.” Said Chang-
Fei nervously.
They passed a garden with ponds and gingerly walked through a long corridor to the meeting room. They
stayed quietly at the corner. King-Guanyu said, “We broke the jade King-Ying lent to me. He will be very angry
and it’s likely he will start a war with us.”
Don’t worry! We have 1,000,000 brave warriors with armor, shields and spear,” announced General-Cho.
King-Guanyu said, “Our warriors have been at war for many years. Many children have lost their
grandfathers, fathers and brothers. I don’t want this to continue.”
Advisor-Ming suggested, “How about we glue the jade?”
No, we must be honest. If he found out he was cheated, he would be furious. We spent many years to build
the Great Wall from Inner Mongolia to Shanhaiguan to protect our people from wars. I want them to have a
peaceful life.” Insisted King-Guanyu.
Albert felt very hot and wanted to take out his handkerchief from his pocket but accidentally caught his
marbles at the same time and dropped them on the floor. The marbles noisily bounced to the center of the
meeting room. One of the generals began picking them up. He opened his mouth wide and exclaimed in
astonishment, “What precious jewels! I have never seen anything like this!” Chang-Fei led Albert to the king.
Father, this is Albert and he bought these with him.”
The marbles are my toys.” said Albert.
Toys!” Shouted General-Cho. “You call these precious jewels toys?” Advisor-Ming said, “I have an idea.
We can give King-Ying these marbles. Chang- Fei, can your friend give these to us?” Albert agreed.
King-Guanyu gave Albert a golden bookmark with a dragon cut-out pattern on it. All the people were very
happy and they had a feast to celebrate. Chang-Fei asked Albert to have a sip of wine, and very soon he fell
asleep.
When he woke up, he looked around the room. He blinked his eyes and whispered, “I am home! It must
have been a dream.” When he looked at his book, he found a golden book mark with a dragon cut-out pattern on
it. Was it a dream?
Albert sat still in deep thought.
